Success

Sunday was a HUGE success and I want to start by saying a heartfelt Thank You- to all the volunteers. Everyone worked very hard and without you all it would have been impossible.

Also a big thank you to the other rescues who came- Taber Animal Shelter, Brooks, Pit Bulls for life, and 2nd Chance from Pincher Creek came out and it was nice to visit, and get to know their dogs a bit better. It always amazes me at how great these dogs are. All of them have had one sad story or another and still they love us. Amazing.

Of course the Raffle table was a hit- we had a lot of great support from local businesses and our table was filled to the brim with goodies. The garage sale went over great, and the M & M BBQ was busy most of the afternoon. Between the raffle table, the garage sale and general donations we raised just over $1100! Woohoo!

We also had some really great adoptions. The one that made us the happiest of all was Dolly. Little Dolly has been with us for more than 2 months- MUCH longer than any other dog we've had. But the Perfect family for her came along and she has already settled in. Mikey also was adopted- right away his family singled him out and loved him. Only one of the pups were adopted- Miles, the curly boy. It was a surprise as we thought we'd have a ton of applications on them. And little Obi went to a great couple who will be active enough to keep up with him! Mojo will be heading off to her new home in the next week or so.

Piper, Darby, Macy, and Minni are still waiting for their families...

Thanks again to everyone who came out to support us- it was nice to meet some faces from the blog!

mmm,mmm, Cute!

Last night we got a call from a family who was finding five dogs way too overwhelming. So after some scrambling around and getting them all in foster homes they are ready to be announced. Mojo and Mikey are off to be spayed/neutered this week, and the puppies will of course be spayed/neutered when they are old enough as part of the adoption contract. Please consider carefully if you are for sure ready to add a dog to your life BEFORE you contact us.

Also you must download, fill out and send back the application form (via email) as well as include a little extra information about yourself. I will try and get back to everyone as soon as possible.

Here they are.....

Mojo is a 4 year old Pomeranian Cross. She is outgoing, friendly and just a happy, happy little dog. Mojo loves to snuggle and is quite affectionate. I think with a little bit of time she will be a great little companion. She likes to go for walks but pulls on a leash- nothing a little training can't fix! Mojo has been an indoor housedog but her housetraining is not 100%. She loves kids, is great with cats and really enjoys other dogs company. Mojo has had 4 litters of puppies and is looking forward to having a puppy free rest of her life. She will be going to be spayed prior to her adoption.

Mikey is a 1 year old Shih Tzu cross who is a little calmer than his friend Mojo. He likes to lay around and watch the world go 'round. He is cuddler and is content laying on your lap. Mikey likes to go for walks and is a great little dog. He is still a puppy himself at only a year old!!! He is not 100% on the housetraining but with a little work will catch on quick! He is great with cats, is used to kids, and likes other dogs.

And now for the pups....

The puppies are approximately 10 weeks old and are outgoing, socialised little things with very different personalities. They all adore people, and have been exposed to cats, kids and other dogs. The housetraining started last night and they will have a pretty good handle on it in a short time. As with all puppies they will need lots and lots of training- think of the chewing, the early morning pee breaks, puppies cannot be left home alone 8 hours and will need frequent breaks through out the day- they are cute for sure, but they will need work! We are taking applications on them and will have them at the adoption fair. Applications are NOT on a first come, first serve basis. We want to find the best, most suitable homes for each pup.

Miles is the laid back pup of the group. He is content to lay back and watch the action. Miles likes to be held and melts into you when you cuddle him. His little puppy sigh is quite adorable. He has curly hair and will look kind of like his dad when he is grown up.

This little cutie is Macy. She is a little spit fire and is always the center of attention. She loves to be fawned over and thinks that she should be held all the time. She is the shortest pup of the group and has silky hair. She will be very Shih Tzu looking as an adult.

The diva of the group is Minnie. This pup is a leader and is a take charge kind of puppy. To look at her she seems quite innocent doesn't she! Minnie likes to snuggle too but at this point loves to explore and investigate. She is the bravest of the bunch and will grow up to look like her mom.

A Star is Born

Shaw TV came out to do a little story about the adoption fair. Dolly was the main attraction....

Logan (a past adoptee who is NOT available for adoption)
posed as a very good boy who was very thankful his mommy was rescued. His mom is Sofie who was rescued after ending up in a kill shelter. We had no idea she was pregnant...until it was too late. All of her pups just turned 6 months old and were spayed/neutered in the past few weeks. It is amazing the difference in them!

The story will run on Shaw periodically over the next week leading up to the fair- we appreciate the coverage and hope it will bring more people down to see what we are about.

Piper

I got an email this morning from someone concerned about a dog. Apparently a family had adopted the dog a few months ago from the shelter- and after being evicted from their house had no where for the dog to go. The friend helping the family called the shelter to see if they would take the dog back- yes, they would....but, the dog would not be adopted out again. I wonder what that meant???!!!!
Meet Piper- I initially was told she was a boxer....We guess that she is a Rottweiler/Shepherd maybe some Airedale thrown in there...Who knows. She is an all around Mutt.
Piper is a friendly dog who likes to meet new people- she hasn't got the manners thing figured out yet but I am sure that with a little training and love she will catch on quick. She is fully housetrained, and is used to being in a crate. She loves to go on walks but needs to learn some leash manners. Piper adores people and will jump up to give you a big hug. She has a lovely personality and once she has settled down we will get to know the real Piper. Right now she is a little anxious about her life changes. She seems to be very good with male dogs- but is pushing to be an alpha female with girl dogs- she also seems to have a healthy respect for kitties. :o)

Piper is approximately one year old and has been spayed, vaccinated and will be ready for a home to call her own soon.

UPDATE:
Piper is doing great and is settling well into her foster home. She is proving herself to be a wonderful dog with a little attention and exercise. Piper LOVES to learn new things and is willing to do anything to make you happy. She is very food motivated, loves to play with toys and is just a really good girl!

Obi

Obi has it all- good looks, and a great personality!

(chewing a cookie was the only way to get him to stand still!)

Obi has a very outgoing, look at me, kind of attitude. He loves to be the center of attention and thinks that the world should revolve around him.
He is very much a "It's all about Me" kind of dog!

He is happy, friendly and is quite happy to meet and greet strangers. He is doing great with other dogs, is learning about cats, and is catching on pretty good to this whole housetraining thing. I met with Obi and his foster mom on Saturday and was really impressed with him. He had never met me and was all over me- confident and sure of himself. He didn't stop moving throughout the whole photo shoot- and was curious about his new surroundings.

His foster home reports that he is doing great in the crate, and is just a nice puppy to have around. He is cuddly and loves to kiss, and is a great player, he really enjoys playing with balls and squeaky toys.

Slacking

So I have been slacking off in the blog department! Sorry Guys!

We are getting ready for our upcoming ADOPTION FAIR. Lots of work and planning goes into it before the actual event. We are planning a bigger, better adoption fair this time- a garage sale will be held in conjuction- Alta Aluminum has graciously donated their parking lot for our use. M & M meats is doing a BBQ too- so there will be yummy burgers and hotdogs available as well.
There will be a silent auction, and we are rounding up lots of great stuff!

And of course you can't forget the reason we are doing this- the dogs. We will have all of our available dogs (which at this point isn't very many!!!) and we have invited two other organisations as well- Brooks Animal Protection Society will be on hand with some of their dogs, and Melanie from Second Chance (Pincher Creek) will be here as well.

We have had a fair number of adoptions lately too- Luke is heading to his new home this week, Rosie, and Maybe both went to their new homes on the weekend. So we are down to the two pittie pups- Obi ( I have new pics to share with you in the next post) and Leia. The pups are growing like weeds and are doing great! Dolly is STILL looking for her forever home. I am hoping to have new pictures this week. And miss Darby- who is settling in well at her foster home.

A Little Wiggly...

Meet Darby.

She is very Wiggly.

Darby wandered onto someones acreage and promptly made herself at home. After a few run ins with the cattle it was decided she would be shot- or moved somewhere else. So here she is.

We are guessing she is between a 3 and five years old. From the way she acts, and looks it seems like she has not had an easy life. She is very much a "farm dog." The fellow who had her thought that with a little work she could even be useful with the cattle but he had neither the time, nor the inclination to do so.

Darby is a very typical border collie in that she adores people. She loves to be pet, and starts wiggling and slinking from a few feet away. Unlike some Border Collies this one appears to be GREAT with cats. She was not bothered at all by it and was quite respectful.

She doesn't seem to know much in the way of obedience- but does sit, and I am sure will be a quick learner. Darby loves to play- and is a fabulous tugger. She is eager to make you happy, and is not an off the wall hyper dog. With a little bit of work this dog will make someone VERY happy. She is just a nice dog to have around!

Maybe a good picture...

It is hard to get a good picture of Maybe...

Maybe is doing great these days and is proving to be a good little companion. She is learning lots of new things and loves to play. She is a fetching machine and is actually quite gentle with her toys. Maybe takes a while to warm up to new people still, but will take cookies, and happily go for a walk with them! This dog has changed alot in a short time!

4 days...

is how long it took us to find fabulous homes for these little dudes! Good luck in your new homes boys!

I wish all adoptions were that quick! We've had quite a few adoptions lately and our list of available dogs are dwindling by the day it seems!

Miss Dolly- is doing fabulous in her foster home! Dolly is a middle aged beagle who was found wandering in a rural area. We think she was a "breeder" let go when she couldn't produce anymore. Dolly has settled into the good life, loves to go for walks, is quite playful in the house and is a very friendly little dog. She would make a great companion for someone who wanted a walking buddy, or a dog to spoil...Dolly says spoiling is good thing!
The little pit bull/lab pups are doing great! They are growing like weeds and are great puppies- the like to follow you around and are always checking out to see where the fun is happening. They are doing great in the housetraining department and have really developed their own individual personalities. We are in need of a foster home for Mr. Obi- they are at the age where they will benefit greatly by being split up. Leia is in her very own foster home already- and we'd like to split those boys up!
Princess Rosie (that's how she likes to be addressed these days) is settling in well and is almost done her heat cycle. She will be spayed shortly and ready for her new home. She is coming along great and the foster home is really enjoying having her around. She is very quiet and well behaved in the house. Rosie seems to enjoy going for walks and is figuring out how to play with toys, and other dogs! She still LOVES people the most and will happily hang out at your feet all day! She is a 1-2 year old Corgi.
Maybe is still available to the right home as well. She is a GREAT little dog and deserves a loving home to call her own. She adores her person, and is learning to meet and greet new people properly too! She is much better in that department and is quick to make friends. Maybe is learning basic obedience and can sit, and shake a paw. She is a smart little thing who never makes a mistake. She is completely housetrained, is great in the crate and is just an all around great dog. She is a Shih Tzu/Jack Russell Cross. Maybe can not go to a home with small kids. She needs a quiter home where there is not a lot of people coming and going.

Item # 216

Item # 216 = There is something about this dog that made it hard to leave her behind. It could be her soft woeful expression, it could be the way she leans in for a scratch. It could be the way her coat is all sun burnt- indicating that she has spent a lot of time outdoors. Or it could be that she needed help.

She was tied to a railing on a fence, her number on her neck...

We discovered that her actual auction time would be hours from when we were there. A friend said she'd stick around to see if she was sold. Adult dogs don't go for much. I got the call a few hours later and rushed back to pick her up. Although we of course don't generally pay for dogs we ended up paying for this one. She was worth it. To be bought by us means that she will be spayed(she is in heat right now), and then sent to a screened, loving home. To be bought by someone at the auction could mean puppies, puppies, puppies, or the rest of her life outdoors...

We have named her Rosie and she is settling in very well. We were told that she is a Pembroke Corgi/Border Collie Cross. I definitely agree- she has a very border collie face, but appears to be very much a corgi. She is soft and gentle and is fabulous with kids. Rosie is great in the house and likes to lay at your feet. She loves to go for walks and doesn't even pull! Rosie is learning about housetraining and has only had one accident so far! She is a real sweetheart and loves to be close to you. She is a young dog (around 2 years old) and is eager to learn. She picks things up fast and will be a great house dog in no time!

Unannounced

Last week we recieved three new arrivals from the reserve. They are now almost ready for their new homes so figured it was high time to get them up on the web! They are just coming out of quarantine and all seem very healthy. They are eating great, have nice solid bowel movements, and of course are busy, busy, busy like little pups should be!
So I'd like to introduce you to
Leia- (yes, as in Princess) She is the diva of the group and is very opinionated. Leia has stuff to say about everything! She loves to snuggle though- as long as it is on her terms!!!

Obi....He is the smart guy of the group- and seems to be wiser beyond his age. He is a great little pup who I think would make a great pet- he adores people, loves to learn and is willing to please.

and then there is Luke

who doesn't like to stay still for a minute! This little guy has lots of things to do and is always in a hurry. Once he is tired he is all snuggles, but when he is up and around he's a busy guy!

-----

These pups were found under an abandoned house on the reserve. Their mom was no where in sight but we are guessing that they are Pit Bull Lab type crosses. They will be med-large sized dogs as adults. Pit Bulls make GREAT pets, and are not the monsters the media makes them out to be. As with any dog it pays to do your research!

These pups will be ready for their new homes in the next week. We are also looking for foster homes so that we can split them up. If you are interested in fostering you can email Amanda at manymuddypaws@yahoo.com

Jerry and Kramer

We took a trip out to a livestock auction yesterday and were dismayed at the number of dogs being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Dogs are not livestock. But apparently others don't think so.

We came home with three dogs- two that weren't being bid on at all, and one that we outbid for. ----------
These two little guys are Border Collie/Shih Tzu crosses. Yup. Amazing eh? I have seen a few of them around- they are being labeled as the newest designer dog.

Meet Jerry-

He is the tall, silent type. He loves to cuddle, but is not in your face like his little brother. Jerry is quite tall- and will probably be Border Collie size as an adult. Cute, Cute. His fur is very wispy and he has very honest eyes.

And then there is Kramer- who is the wild 'n crazy guy you might expect with a name like Kramer :o) He is outgoing, always happy, and the first to explore in new situations. He has a very shih tzu-like personality. He will be smaller than his brother and has long, flowing hair.

Both pups have their first and second shots and are ready for their forever homes! I will have more information about their personalities as we get to know them!
I will post about the other little addition later today...her name is Rosie and she is just my kinda dog....
